The variety is autochthonous to Greece. Genetically, it is close to the Mandilaria variety. The designation "N" in the name indicates the dark color of the berries.
It is classified as a wine variety. In terms of total tannin content, it is comparable to such local varieties as Limniona and Mavrotragano. Detailed agrotechnical information, including maturity dates and disease resistance, is not provided in the publications.
