The variety belongs to the species Vitis vinifera L. The "N" designation in the name indicates the black color of the berry skin. The variety is a traditional local variety of Greece and is included in European ampelographic collections as an object for the conservation of genetic resources.

In winemaking, the variety is classified as a wine grape. Studies note a high sugar accumulation potential of the berries, reaching 27.50 °Brix. Detailed agrotechnical characteristics, including vine vigor, maturity group, and disease resistance, are not described in scientific literature.
