The variety is considered very old; its likely place of origin is the territory of modern-day Moldova. In the past, before the phylloxera epidemic, it was widely distributed in many viticultural countries. At present, in Croatia, the variety is classified as critically endangered and is included in the lists of varieties authorized for cultivation.
The variety has many synonyms, including Kozje sise, Kozji cec, Geisdutte Weisse, and Coarna alba. An ampelographic description of the variety, conducted according to OIV standards, notes the specific structure of the berries, the shape of which is reflected in the common names. Projects are underway for the revitalization and conservation of the variety in specialized mother plantations.
