The variety is native to the continental regions of Croatia and Slovenia. The plant has vigorous growth and is capable of producing consistently high yields, with grape harvesting typically taking place in September.
The grapes rarely accumulate large amounts of sugar, so the resulting wines are light and refreshing, with floral and citrus notes. The variety is traditionally used for blending, although varietal still and sparkling wines are also produced from it.
The variety is well-adapted to local agroclimatic conditions, but it is sensitive to severe winter cold, which can negatively affect fruit-bearing. Synonyms include Imbrina, Brina, Moravčina crvena, and the Kraljevina crvena variety.
