The name Muscat Sylvaner was historically used to designate the Sauvignon Blanc variety, which was introduced to Austria in the 19th century. In reality, this grape has no relation to either the Muscat family or the Sylvaner variety and does not possess a characteristic Muscat aroma. In some cases, blends of these varieties may have been erroneously marketed under this name.

Sauvignon Blanc is an independent wine grape variety. It is characterized by medium ripening periods and medium vine vigor. The aroma profile of wine from this grape includes distinct herbaceous notes, as well as hints of citrus and tropical fruits.
