Rotgipfler is an autochthonous Austrian late-ripening variety that requires warm and sunny conditions for maturation. The variety received its name due to the characteristic bronze-red hue of the young shoots and leaf tips.
The variety is considered fickle: it is sensitive to frost and prone to grey mold, downy mildew, and powdery mildew due to the dense structure of the bunches. It is used primarily for the production of high-quality white wines with a high content of extractive substances, good acidity, and notes of peach, pear, and almond.
