Plants of the Ottofile variety reach a height of 180–210 cm. The ears are slender, with a length of 20–30 cm. The grain is of the flint type; it is hard, rounded, with a smooth surface and vitreous endosperm, and the color varies from golden-yellow to red-orange.
The variety is considered an 'heirloom' and possesses the endurance typical of such plants, however, it is characterized by low yields compared to modern hybrids, amounting to approximately 12–15 c/ha. The plants are susceptible to lodging in strong winds.
