The variety is a population type of maize (open-pollinated), which is the result of many years of folk selection. According to the international FAO classification, it belongs to the 300 group, which corresponds to mid-early varieties.
The grain has a characteristic yellow color. Historically and in modern conditions, the variety is used for making polenta. Currently, it is considered a valuable genetic resource and is being preserved within the framework of programs for the protection of agricultural biodiversity in Italy.
