Determinacy

Determinacy is a genetically determined plant growth habit where development is limited by the formation of a specific number of inflorescences. This trait defines bush architecture, maturation rates, and crop management strategies.

Determinacy characterizes a plant's ability to cease vegetative growth after setting a fixed number of inflorescences, terminating in an apical flower cluster. Unlike indeterminate varieties that continue to develop throughout the season, determinate forms are distinguished by their compactness and focus on an early transition to the generative phase.

The trait defines the cultivation strategy by ensuring concentrated fruit set, which simplifies mechanized harvesting. This growth type requires specific agrotechniques, as improper pruning can lead to reduced productivity, while the plants themselves often do not require intensive staking.

The evaluation of determinacy during variety testing is conducted through field observations of plant architecture.
