Inflorescence diameter is a key biometric indicator for chrysanthemum, which determines its varietal classification, ornamental quality, and market value of cut flowers.

To measure the diameter of a chrysanthemum flower head, a ruler or a caliper with an accuracy of 0.5 cm is used. Based on this indicator, varieties are classified into small-flowered (up to 8–9 cm), medium-flowered (10–19 cm), and large-flowered (from 10–25 to 30 cm).

The realization of the genetic potential for inflorescence size depends on adherence to cultivation practices, temperature regimes above 18–20°C, nutrient intensity, and control of the photoperiodic response. An optimal day length (approximately 14.5 hours) during bud initiation is critical for the formation of a large receptacle.
