Lupinus angustifolius L.
A complex disease of narrow-leafed lupin caused by soil-borne fungi of the genus Fusarium, manifesting as tracheomycotic wilt and root rot.

The primary pathogens of the disease are Fusarium oxysporum, which causes vascular wilt, and Fusarium avenaceum, which induces root rot, although a number of associated species are also identified. In the classification system of Fusarium oxysporum races, race 3 is pathogenic to narrow-leafed lupin; this race also infects white lupin but shows no activity on yellow lupin.
Disease symptoms include patchy wilting with yellowing and curling of the leaves, as well as browning of the vascular bundles in the lower part of the stem. Root infection leads to necrosis, and in humid weather, a white or pinkish bloom forms on the root collar, which ultimately results in the formation of shriveled seeds.
The resistance of certain narrow-leafed lupin genotypes to Fusarium wilt is determined by the interaction of two dominant non-allelic genes, designated as Rfo1 and Rfo2. Susceptible forms carry these genes in the recessive state.
