Fusarium wilt of tomato

Fusarium wilt is caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici. Resistance in Solanum lycopersicum x Solanum pimpinellifolium hybrids is conferred by introgressed I, I-2, and I-3 genes, which correspond to three races of the pathogen.

The disease is caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici. The pathogen is represented by three main races capable of overcoming specific plant resistance. To control the infection, resistance genes introgressed from the wild species Solanum pimpinellifolium are used, which are designated as I, I-2, and I-3 and provide protection against the first, second, and third races, respectively.

Symptoms of the infection include unilateral wilting of plant parts or individual leaves, which may be reversible in the initial stages. Characteristic signs of the disease also include yellowing and shedding of lower leaves, and when the stem is cut at the base, longitudinal brown streaks are revealed, indicating damage to the vascular system.
