Brassica oleracea L. (Brussels Sprouts Group)
A fungal disease caused by the protist Plasmodiophora brassicae, manifesting as the formation of galls on the roots. In Brussels sprouts, it leads to loss of leaf turgor and underdevelopment of sprouts due to impaired root system conductivity.

Pathological growths and swellings form on the roots of Brussels sprouts, which eventually decay under the influence of secondary infection. In the seedling phase, the infection is often latent; however, as the plant grows, external signs appear: wilting, yellowing of leaves, and impaired sprout formation.
The pathogen exhibits pronounced physiological specialization, dividing into races with varying virulence. In the breeding of resistant hybrids, both monogenic and polygenic defense mechanisms are used, and varieties with genetic resistance are marked in catalogs with the abbreviation CR.
