Brassica oleracea L. (Broccoli Group)
A disease of broccoli caused by the obligate parasite Plasmodiophora brassicae. It manifests as the formation of growths and galls on the roots, which leads to impaired plant nutrition, stunted growth, and underdeveloped heads.
In the reference 11 varieties crop Broccoli, where this is mentioned in the description.
The pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae induces hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the broccoli root system tissues. As a result of root damage, water and mineral exchange is disrupted, which is externally expressed by a loss of turgor, yellowing or purpling of the leaves, and the formation of small or underdeveloped heads.
Genetic breeding of broccoli for clubroot resistance involves the use of both dominant genes, such as CRa and Crr1, and quantitative trait loci. Given the high genetic variability of the pathogen and the constant adaptation of new physiological races, the resistance of varieties can be overcome, which requires the implementation of a complex of agrotechnical measures.
