Cultivation
Miscanthus sinensis Andersson
A cultivation method for Miscanthus sinensis in a limited volume of soil, focused on maintaining the ornamental quality of dwarf varieties. It requires intensive moisture control and periodic division of the clump every 2–3 years to prevent substrate depletion and root-bound growth.
In the reference 15 varieties crop Chinese silver grass, where this is mentioned in the description.
For container cultivation, preference is given to compact and dwarf varieties of Miscanthus sinensis, as tall forms require too frequent repotting. The limited space of the pot prevents the plant from developing a full root system, making the division of the clump and the renewal of the substrate mandatory every 2–3 years.
The substrate for Miscanthus must combine high drainage properties with moisture-retention capacity, as the drying out of the root ball in a container is critical for the crop. Long-term use of the same soil volume without replacement increases the risk of root rot, which requires strict control of the nutrient and irrigation regime.
