Camelina (Camelina sativa) serves as a source of plant protein and omega-3 fatty acids in livestock diets, acting as an alternative to traditional oilseed cakes.

Camelina seeds contain 21–29% crude protein and 26–46% oil, with protein content in the cake reaching 35–42%. The crop is characterized by a high content of alpha-linolenic acid and tocopherols, which allows its processed products to be used as a valuable additive in compound feeds, for example, for broilers, where the cake can replace sunflower cake in an amount of up to 15% of the diet mass.
The main limiting factor for the use of camelina is the presence of glucosinolates, which require neutralization through mandatory heat treatment, such as extrusion. The use of camelina cake requires attention to diet balance, as an excessive content of vegetable fats can affect rumen digestion processes in ruminants.
