Forage Use — Soybean

Glycine max (L.) Merr.

Soybean is a high-protein feed component with a protein content of 35–48% and oil content of 18–26%, whose amino acid profile is closest to the physiological requirements of animals.

In the reference 129 varieties crop Soybean, where this is mentioned in the description.

The uniqueness of soybean as a forage crop is due to its high concentration of complete protein containing lysine, tryptophan, and methionine, as well as a significant amount of phospholipids. This allows for the use of soybean meal, cake, and full-fat extruded soybean as an alternative to expensive animal-derived feeds, while simultaneously providing high protein and energy value in the diet.

Raw soybean grain contains specific anti-nutritional factors, such as trypsin inhibitors, urease, hemagglutinins, and saponins, which require mandatory heat treatment of the grain before feeding to monogastric animals and poultry. In addition to processed grain products, the crop is widely used in feed production in the form of green mass, silage, haylage, and grass meal.
