Variety traits
Alstroemeria L.
The Alstroemeria rhizome is the primary organ for vegetative propagation and the formation of flowering shoots, sensitive to soil temperature conditions.
In the reference 17 varieties crop Alstroemeria, where this is mentioned in the description.
The Alstroemeria rhizome is a robust organ upon which lateral processes and growth points are formed. In cultivation, a division must contain at least 3–5 buds to ensure plant development. During in vitro propagation, segments 4–10 mm in length are used, and when assessing the condition of the plant, the presence of healthy parent tissue and the overall viability of the root system are taken into account.
The physiological state of the rhizome directly determines crop productivity: at soil temperatures above +22°C, flowering ceases in favor of active rhizome growth, whereas cooling to +10°C stimulates the emergence of flower stalks. The depth of the rhizomes, reaching 30–60 cm, requires a specific approach to soil preparation, and division is performed during the plant's dormant phase.
