Apricot leaf curl

Prunus armeniaca L.

An infectious disease of apricot caused by the fungus Taphrina deformans. It manifests as deformation, thickening, and curling of leaves, twisting of young shoots, and, less frequently, damage to flowers and fruits.

In the reference 3 varieties crop Apricot, where this is mentioned in the description.

The disease is caused by the ascomycete Taphrina deformans, which affects apricots significantly less often than peaches. The pathogen infects tissues during bud break under cool and humid weather conditions, causing thickening of the leaf blades, a change in their color to reddish or yellowish, and the development of brittleness.

Affected young apricot shoots are characterized by shortened internodes and rosettes of curled leaves. In rare cases, the pathogen affects the fruits, leading to the appearance of necrotic spots, deformations, and premature shedding of the ovaries. Specific resistance genes to this pathogen in the crop have not yet been identified.
