Variety traits
Fritillaria L.
The Fritillaria bulb is an organ consisting of several fleshy scales without a protective tunic, often featuring a specific cavity at the basal plate. Its morphology, including size and vegetative division capacity, is a key trait for species identification and variety testing.
In the reference 14 varieties crop Fritillary, where this is mentioned in the description.
Fritillaria bulbs consist of 2–6 or more fleshy scales, which are often fused together and lack an outer protective tunic. The size of the organ ranges from small (2–3 cm in F. meleagris) to large spherical forms, reaching 15 cm in diameter in F. imperialis. A characteristic feature is the presence of a deep cavity at the basal plate following the senescence of the flowering stem.
During agronomic operations, the cavity at the basal plate requires planting bulbs at an angle to prevent moisture stagnation and subsequent decay. Planting depth varies from 5 to 20 cm depending on the bulb size. Breeding evaluation is based on scale morphometry, the vegetative propagation rate, and molecular genetic markers for species identification.
