Brassica oleracea L. (White Cabbage Group)
A physiological non-infectious disease of cabbage, manifested as small dark spots on the leaves of the head due to metabolic disorders.

Pepper spot is a non-infectious disorder in which small lead-gray or gray-black spots up to 0.5 cm in diameter form on the outer and inner leaves of the head. The process of tissue damage begins with the degradation of the cell nucleus and cytoplasm, which leads to the destruction of cell walls and the formation of lesions. Damaged areas often become foci for secondary infection with gray mold or bacterial soft rot.
The development of the disease is associated with an imbalance in mineral nutrition, in particular with an excess of nitrogen, as well as with a moisture deficit during the head formation period. Increased resistance is achieved by applying potash and boron fertilizers and liming the soil. An important factor is the maintenance of storage conditions, as prolonged exposure to temperatures below 0…-1 °C provokes the progression of necrosis.
