Petchoa irrigation requires monitoring of drainage and substrate pH to prevent root rot and chlorosis. The irrigation regimen is based on alternating 'wet-dry' cycles while maintaining a medium acidity in the 5.5–6.0 range.

As an intergeneric hybrid, Petchoa is highly sensitive to waterlogging and standing water. To prevent root rot, it is necessary to use a loose, aerated substrate and perform irrigation by alternating drying and wetting cycles. Frequent moisture is required in the first weeks after transplanting; after rooting, irrigation intensity should be reduced, based on soil condition.
A critical factor is the control of substrate pH, which must be 5.5–6.0. If the pH rises above 6.2, iron uptake is impaired, leading to the development of chlorosis; therefore, acidification is required when using hard water. Basal irrigation is preferred, as moisture on the foliage under poor ventilation conditions triggers fungal diseases. Despite these requirements, due to its well-developed root system, the hybrid possesses increased resistance to short-term drought compared to its parental forms.
