Petchoa is characterized by low general susceptibility to viruses, but requires monitoring for symptoms caused by the Tospovirus group, Calibrachoa mottle virus, and Citrus exocortis viroid.

Petchoa does not exhibit a pronounced specific susceptibility to classic viral mosaics typical of other Solanaceae. The main risks are associated with exposure to Tomato spotted wilt virus, Impatiens necrotic spot virus, and Calibrachoa mottle virus, the manifestations of which require phytosanitary control.

Unlike petunias, no cases of Tobacco mosaic virus infection have been recorded in petchoa. However, during phytosanitary monitoring, cases of Citrus exocortis viroid presence were identified in this crop. At present, there is no information on specific resistance genes, races, or pathogen pathotypes for this hybrid genus.
