Cultivation
x Petchoa J. M. H. Shaw
Propagation by cuttings is the primary method for Petchoa, as vegetative hybrids of this group do not retain varietal traits when propagated by seeds.
In the reference 3 varieties crop Petchoa, where this is mentioned in the description.
For rooting Petchoa cuttings, sterile, well-aerated substrates with a pH of 5.2–6.2 are used. An important condition for success is maintaining a substrate temperature in the range of +21…+26°C, while strictly controlling moisture levels to avoid waterlogging and prevent the development of root rot.
The rooting process takes from 3 to 5 weeks. Phytohormones are applied to stimulate root formation, and after rooting, pinching is performed to form a compact bush. A mandatory requirement is the use of virus-free stock material and adherence to a light regime to prevent shoot stretching.
