Cucumber scab

Cucumis sativus L.

A fungal disease of cucumber caused by Cladosporium cucumerinum, characterized by lesions on ovaries and fruits in the form of sunken ulcers, as well as the appearance of an olive-grey mold on the leaves.

In the reference 197 varieties crop Cucumber, where this is mentioned in the description.

The pathogen responsible for the disease is the imperfect fungus Cladosporium cucumerinum Ellis & Arthur. The pathogen affects all aerial organs but is most damaging to fruits, where watery, sunken spots develop, eventually turning into ulcers that exude gum and feature a characteristic velvety olive-grey mold under conditions of high humidity.

Brown spots, often bordered by a chlorotic halo, form on the leaves, with the fungus's sporulation also developing on their surface. Affected fruits become deformed and lose their marketability, while leaves tend to wither.

In international classification, the resistance of varieties to this disease is designated by the code Ccu. Varieties are classified by resistance level as HR (High Resistance) or IR (Intermediate Resistance), which serves as the primary criterion when selecting seed material.
