Productivity of Root Chicory

The productivity of root chicory is divided into root yield, measured in t/ha taking into account the inulin content, and seed productivity, determined by the mass of seeds per plant.

Yield is the main indicator for industrial cultivation and is assessed by the mass of marketable root crops per unit area. The average yield level is about 16–17 t/ha, with root morphology being an important criterion: for mechanized harvesting, it is optimal for the bulk of the mass to be concentrated in the upper part with a root length of up to 40 cm.

Seed productivity is analyzed in seed production crops and is expressed in grams of seeds per plant or in centners/ha (dt/ha). This indicator is significantly influenced by the temperature regime during the formation of generative organs and the availability of nutrients, as well as by infection with pathogens such as Phoma and various types of rot.
