A fungal disease of common bean caused by the autoecious pathogen Uromyces appendiculatus. The disease affects vegetative organs and pods, causing premature leaf senescence and yield reduction.

The pathogen Uromyces appendiculatus is an autoecious parasite that completes its life cycle on bean. Symptoms appear as small, raised pustules: in the uredinial stage, they are rust-brown in color, while in the telial stage at the end of the growing season, they darken to a black shade, often surrounded by chlorotic halos.
High variability in pathogen virulence complicates breeding, and the classification of fungal races is conducted using a set of differential tester cultivars. In breeding programs, specific sources of resistance, such as the cultivars Aurora and Mex 235, are used to develop resistant lines.
