Prunus avium (L.) L.
A fungal disease of sweet cherry caused by Botrytis cinerea, affecting blossoms, fruits, and shoots. It is characterized by the development of watery rot and the formation of a specific grey mold under high humidity conditions.
In the reference 11 varieties crop Sweet cherry, where this is mentioned in the description.
Infection in sweet cherry often begins with the infestation of inflorescences, causing them to wilt and turn brown, which is frequently classified as blossom blight. On the fruits, the disease manifests as soft, watery rot, on the surface of which a characteristic fluffy grey or grey-brown coating, consisting of the pathogen's mycelium and conidia, develops under high humidity.
The infection can spread to young shoots and branches, where necrotic brown spots appear, leading to tissue necrosis. The pathogen is capable of surviving on plant debris and remaining in a latent state on tree tissues, becoming active when favorable conditions occur, such as moderate temperatures and high humidity.
