Suitability of Sedum for cut flowers

Sedum is characterized by the versatility of its cutting stages: plants can be used at the bud formation stage, in full bloom, or during senescence. The succulent structure of the stems and leaves ensures long-lasting freshness even without constant access to water, which distinguishes this crop from traditional cut flower plants.

Agrotechnical considerations for cutting include the need to remove the lower foliage to prevent stem rot in water. The highest quality for commercial production is found in tall, upright cultivars of the Sedum spectabile and Hylotelephium telephium groups with stem lengths of up to 60 centimeters.
