Dry matter — Persian clover

Trifolium resupinatum L.

This indicator reflects the concentration of nutrients in biomass and crop productivity. It is used to assess feed value and yield, measured in t/ha or dt/ha.

To determine the dry matter content in Persian clover, samples of freshly harvested biomass are dried at a temperature of 55–60 °C for 24–48 hours. This regime is necessary to prevent the loss of thermolabile proteins and to obtain reliable data on feed composition. Dry matter yield is determined by harvesting test plots and subsequently calculating the obtained mass per hectare.

The dry matter content in the fresh mass of Persian clover typically varies within the range of 11–17%. Dry matter yield depends significantly on varietal characteristics and agricultural practices, ranging from 1.5–3.3 t/ha up to 5.9 t/ha for single-cut lines. This indicator changes depending on the growth stage, allowing agronomists to determine the optimal harvesting time for obtaining the maximum amount of nutrients.
