A fungal disease of Persian clover caused by the pathogen Uromyces trifolii-repentis. It manifests as spore pustules on the aerial parts of the plant, leading to a reduction in forage mass productivity.

The primary causative agent of the disease is the fungus Uromyces trifolii-repentis, which infects the leaves and stems of the plant. The infection appears as yellow, orange, or brown pustules containing a mass of spores. Significant development of the pathogen results in leaf deformation, stem curling, and premature leaf drop.

Disease development is promoted by warm, humid weather and dense crop stands, which increase air humidity within the canopy. Although rust is considered less dangerous compared to leaf spots, widespread infection leads to a decrease in the quantity and quality of harvested biomass.

In breeding practice, variety resistance is evaluated at the level of phenotypic tolerance or resistance. Specific resistance genes have not been mapped; however, varieties differ significantly in their susceptibility: from highly tolerant ones such as Kyambro to highly susceptible ones, for example, Maral.
