The marketability of eggplant is calculated by dividing the harvested produce into two fractions: marketable and non-marketable. The marketable portion includes whole, healthy, clean fruits that are typical in shape and color for a specific variety, have an intact pedicel, and meet the requirements of GOST 31821-2022. The non-marketable portion includes deformed fruits, those damaged by diseases or pests, or those that are overripe or wilted.

A high marketability rate for eggplant is considered to be between 95% and 99%. Low values indicate variety instability, high sensitivity to abiotic stresses, and poor agricultural practices. Failure to adhere to irrigation and mineral nutrition regimes often leads to fruit deformation, which directly reduces the economic efficiency of production due to the need for additional sorting and the loss of a portion of the harvest.
