To evaluate the resistance of transgenic cotton varieties, a dose-response analysis is used, where plants are exposed to various herbicide concentrations to determine their ability to maintain growth and reproductive function. Protection efficacy is assessed through visual observation of phytotoxicity, including necrosis and leaf deformation, as well as by comparing biometric indicators and yield between treated and control plots.

Molecular verification of resistance is conducted using PCR methods to confirm the presence of target genes. The use of resistant varieties allows for broad-spectrum post-emergence treatments, but it creates a risk of developing resistance in weeds such as Palmer amaranth. Non-resistant cotton varieties are extremely sensitive to herbicide drift, which, upon contact with the chemical, leads to a sharp decrease in yield or plant death.
