The expression of these traits is influenced by cultivation conditions: a lack of light and moisture deficit contribute to a reduction in sugar content and the appearance of bitterness. In breeding, there is a difference in organoleptic characteristics between bee-pollinated varieties, which possess a more pronounced aroma, and modern parthenocarpic hybrids.
