Plant height is a key morphological trait of the aster, measured from the soil surface to the top of the inflorescence. This indicator determines both the ornamental purpose of the cultivar and the technological features of its cultivation.

For annual asters, a classification has been adopted that divides cultivars into dwarf (up to 25 cm), low-growing (25–40 cm), medium-tall (45–60 cm), tall (65–80 cm), and giant (from 80 cm). Plant height directly correlates with the strength of the peduncles and the overall plant habit, which includes columnar, pyramidal, spreading, or spherical forms.

Low-growing forms are primarily used for border landscaping and container cultivation, whereas tall cultivars are intended for cut flowers. When cultivating tall asters, the risk of peduncle lodging due to precipitation is taken into account, as well as the sensitivity of height to temperature regimes during early growth stages.
