Sweet cherry tree height is a key indicator of orchard intensity, determined by varietal characteristics and rootstock type. Optimizing this parameter to 2.5–4 meters is necessary to reduce costs for harvesting and agrotechnical operations.

Under natural conditions or on seedling rootstocks, cherry trees reach 10–20 meters. For commercial orcharding, a classification has been adopted according to which low-vigor forms reach 3.5–5 meters, medium-vigor forms are around 5 meters, and high-vigor forms exceed 7–8 meters.
Modern cultivation technologies are aimed at restricting tree growth through the use of clonal rootstocks and specific crown training systems, such as “spindle” or “Tall Spindle”. This allows for the intensification of production by increasing planting density and shifting all maintenance and harvesting tasks to a zone accessible from the ground.
