For tulips, the concept of freezing is inapplicable as a storage method for bulbs, which perish at sub-zero temperatures. For cut flowers, short-term storage at -0.6°C is permissible, though the tissue freezing threshold is approximately -1.7°C.

Tulip bulbs are strictly unsuitable for freezing. Placing planting material in sub-zero temperature conditions leads to the formation of ice crystals that rupture cell membranes, causing inevitable tissue death. Development of the flower shoot requires cooling within a positive temperature range of 2 to 9°C.
Regarding cut tulips, the feasibility of long-term storage at -0.6°C has been experimentally confirmed, allowing for the management of inventory due to the plants' ability for subsequent rehydration. Nevertheless, the technology requires high precision, as a temperature drop to the tissue freezing threshold (approximately -1.7°C for petals) leads to irreversible loss of quality.
