Plants of the species Agrostis canina are characterized by the presence of above-ground creeping shoots and the absence of underground rhizomes. The variety forms a dense and fine-textured stand, which makes it suitable for conditions requiring a lower level of mechanical stress, pesticides, and fertilizers.

In turfgrass mixtures, the variety is considered an alternative for less intensive use. When compared with Agrostis stolonifera in professional golf course conditions, the variety shows lower disease resistance and lower overall turf quality.
