The Licanina variety belongs to the species Agrostis canina L., known in the professional community as velvet bentgrass. The plant forms a dense turf with very thin and soft shoots, creating a characteristic velvety surface.

This variety is specialized and intended for use in golf course covers that withstand extremely low mowing. In comparative trials for pathogen resistance, the variety demonstrated varying degrees of resistance to typical lawn diseases, such as Microdochium, Brown Patch and Dollar Spot.
