Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is derived from the Yaltinsky variety, which was bred in Crimea based on a naturalized form of the Portuguese onion Madeirskaya plaskaya. Yaltyns`kyi rubin was created as an improved breeding form, and its taste qualities and chemical composition are used as a benchmark for comparison with new developments.

The bulb has a flat shape. The outer dry scales are colored in a saturated dark purple color. The succulent inner scales are white, covered with a purple outer skin. The taste of the bulbs varies from sweet to mild-pungent depending on growing conditions.
