The variety is a local Croatian ecotype originating from the Benkovac region. In official Croatian variety registers, it is recorded under the name Brgudski ozimi with the synonym Benkovački and is classified as a conservation variety.
The plant belongs to the winter group. It is characterized by high leaf mass, a well-developed root system, and large bulb size, exceeding the performance of some other local and introduced varieties. The variety is adapted to the specific cultivation conditions of the Bukovica region.
