This name is not a breeding variety in the scientific sense, but denotes genetic resources of local selection. The plants form a rosette of leaves and a fleshy cream-white root, with stem heights ranging from 60 to 120 cm.

The produce is valued for its intense aroma and pungent taste. With proper care, the rhizomes reach a good marketable form, though they are prone to branching. Given that the name encompasses a group of ecotypes, characteristics of maturity and disease resistance may vary significantly.

The plant is used primarily in cooking as a condiment and in traditional medicine.
