The variety possesses a high content of glucosinolates in plant tissues. When green mass is incorporated into the soil, these substances hydrolyze to form isothiocyanates, which suppress soil pests, particularly wireworms.

The plant is fast-growing and is used as a green manure or cover crop for soil remediation. The variety's produce is used for biofumigation in the form of whole plants, as well as meal or flour.
