The Nokonova variety is not a kale variety. According to agronomic manuals and plant variety catalogs, it belongs to the spring turnip rape crop, also known by the Latin name Brassica rapa L. var. silvestris.

In some documents, this variety is erroneously mentioned in the same section as forage kale, which is due to its inclusion in consolidated lists of forage crops. The variety is used as a forage plant.
