The variety is mid-late or late with a maturation period of 170 to 220 days. The plant is medium-tall and possesses a high leaf-to-stem ratio exceeding 50%. The crop shows excellent lodging resistance, good winter hardiness, tolerance to frost, and resistance to aphids.
The variety is specialized for forage purposes, including sheep and cattle grazing, and is also frequently used in game management as cover for wildlife. It is characterized by high dry matter yield and good nutritional value of the leaf mass.
There is a rare perennial amateur hybrid with a similar name, obtained by crossing Purple Tree Collards and Daubenton's Kale, which differs significantly from the commercial agronomic variety in terms of height and method of use.
