The plant is an upright shrub 20–40 cm tall with a compact crown and slow growth rate. The foliage is small, scale-like and stiff, dark green in color; it acquires a golden hue in summer and turns yellow-orange in winter.
The variety belongs to non-flowering forms, the ornamental value of which is due exclusively to the foliage. The plant is winter-hardy, has high resistance to diseases, prefers sunny or semi-shaded locations, as well as acidic, well-drained peat or sandy soils. Annual spring pruning is recommended to maintain the shape of the bush.
