The plant is branching, approximately 60 cm tall. Stems and foliage have a dark purple, almost black color, sometimes with variegated cream or green inclusions. Lower leaves may be green with purple veins.
The fruit is bullet-shaped, 1–2 cm wide and 3–4 cm long, growing in upward-pointing clusters. At technical maturity, the fruit is dark purple, turning dark red when ripe.
The variety is mid-season, with a period from emergence to harvest of 90–100 days. Fruit pungency ranges from 5,000 to 30,000 SHU on the Scoville scale. The plant requires phosphorus-potassium fertilizers and a sunny location; it is used as an ornamental crop and a spice.
