The De Parede cultivar is a traditional clone of sweet chestnut, common in Galicia, Spain. It is not a product of modern breeding and was formed as a result of long-term folk selection.
The nuts of this cultivar are characterized by large size and high taste qualities. The trees grow successfully in the eastern mountainous regions at an altitude of 550 to 750 meters above sea level.
The cultivar is included in phytosanitary studies aimed at assessing resistance to the Oriental chestnut gall wasp. Plant characteristics may vary depending on growing conditions, as the cultivar does not possess traits fixed by industrial hybridization.
