ActiveCastanea sativa Mill. · Sweet chestnut
PEDRO URQUIJO LANDALUCE
10 August 2026
The group includes three main ecotypes: Primutica, with large light-brown nuts ripening in mid-September; Pelosella, with small dark-brown nuts having characteristic fuzz at the stalk; and Pizzutella, with small, pointed, reddish nuts.
Trees in the Terelle area are often secular and, due to high planting density, possess a tall trunk and vertically directed branches. The nuts are suitable for fresh consumption, boiling, roasting, and processing into flour, and are characterized by ease of peeling and a sweet taste.
