The Doriga variety is part of the local genetic heritage of Spain. It was not bred artificially but represents the result of long-term selection in wild populations carried out by Asturian growers.
In Asturian publications, the variety is classified as having commercial significance and is included in active germplasm collections maintained by the regional research organization SERIDA in Villaviciosa and Grado.
